The amount of beautiful work that was displayed and available for sale was amazing. Their supplies and work can be found at their individual websites, which are listed on the Festival’s Exhibitors page
Many people commented that they were tremendously inspired, their creativity was ignited and they made great connections! We also heard how delightful it was to have been able to see so many “age-old” traditional arts and crafts being demonstrated, from rag rug weaving, quilling, paper making, rubbings and lace making to the newest high-tech methods of laser cutting and 3D printing.

A special thank you goes to Crede Calhoun, Vision Quest Studios, who displayed his beautiful photography in booth #4 and took photos throughout the weekend. We’ll have a link soon on our Facebook page so you can relive the event through pictures!

Also, congratulations to Susan Schwab, Gibsonia, PA, who was the randomly drawn winner of the one-year membership to TechShop Pittsburgh. Some of the other winners of Friday evening’s raffle prizes include Marge Connelly, Terry Wasovich, Gigi Corcoren, Carmen Osborne, Rhoda Taylor, Jamie Herron, Connie Bailey, Kim Rosenberger and Ms. Lindbergh. We are still trying to get in touch with Raffle Prize winners Carolyn George and Sharon Strickland… Ladies, please email us with your contact info ASAP!

We are especially pleased with the enormous outpouring of donations that came in for the Salvation Army’s Western Pennsylvania Division’s Annual Spring Fabric Fair! Way to go!

Barb’s Favorite Purchase…

Lynne Saad’s Crepe Swing Coat, embellished with felted flowers, silk cocoons, and various other embellishments. The attention to detail is beautiful, and it is an outstanding artistic expression of Lynne’s talent. I can’t wait for the cold weather so I can wear it! — BG

Have a safe and happy Holiday Weekend!

This is the Week!

We are heading to the hotel Thursday evening to unload all of the boxes and bags for the first-ever Pittsburgh Creative Arts Festival. We have many lovely displays for the event, and set-up for the vendors begins Friday morning. Because we’re in an air-conditioned hotel and ballroom at the Four Points Sheraton Pittsburgh North, you can enjoy the event rain or shine, hail, heat or high winds!

We will see you Friday evening for wine, beer, or a cocktail and hors d’ oeuvres and a Market Sneak Preview. Doors open for registration at 4:30 p.m., and the Festival takes place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, the doors open for registration at 8:30 a.m. The Festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Classes begin at 9 a.m.

Special pricing: Seniors (over 65) and Students: $12 at the door. Children under 12: $10 at the door. We are also honoring any $3 off coupons for admission both days.

While at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo this past weekend, we were given two boxes of additional magazines for giveaway from F+W Media, Inc. They produce 10 magazines in knitting, crochet, quilting, jewelry, embroidery and more. Given that all of our sponsors were so generous with their support of this show, we will have a gift for everyone, even after the “Creative Goody Bags” run out.

Be sure to wear something fun to the Festival: colorful, funky, handmade; an accessory, an outfit, bright shoes, handbag, jewelry or scarf. Don’t forget to say “I Love Yarn”  if you are a loyal Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival attendee for a gift from Coats.

JUST ADDED: Make-It/Take-It with TechShop Pittsburgh

Lasers are one of the most versatile pieces of equipment at TechShop, used for prototyping, artwork, home improvement and design. Participants in this free activity, available both Friday and Saturday, can use some of TechShop Pittsburgh’s laser-cut materials to create their own smartphone pouch. Using laser-cut felt and buttons, you can sew your own pouch and accessorize it! Plus, use the Shop’s laser-cut blocks to try your hand at printmaking! TechShop Pittsburgh will have samples of other items created on lasers, and instructions for suggested use.

Additional prizes and donations keep coming in for the first-ever Pittsburgh Creative Arts Festival, which takes place in just two weeks! 3 Weeks to Go!
We are just three weeks away from the first-ever Pittsburgh Creative Arts Festival, and summer is flying by! We have been busy with preparations and details for the upcoming festival, organizing the raffle prizes, donations and goody bags.

Thanks to the generosity of so many of the people and companies that have stepped forward to support this new show, we will have goody bags at the Friday evening reception for the FIRST 150 PEOPLE.

We will also have lots of raffle prizes for which you will receive tickets. Some of what you can look forward to include: fabric bundles, charm packs, jelly rolls, buttons, beads, specialty papers, fibers, thimbles, silk ribbons, yarns, notions, handbags, jewelry, books, magazines, notepads, needles, threads, patterns, kits, greeting cards, burlap, totes, accessories and more. Wow!

At this writing, our sponsors and supporters include:

With your admission ticket for Friday evening, you’ll receive your choice of a complimentary glass of wine, a beer, a house cocktail or a soft drink… along with delicious hors d ‘oeuvres, a sneak preview of the market, and special Friday evening demos. It should be a fun time, and a nice way to end your week.

Our Grand Prize drawing, with a winner selected at the end of the day on Saturday, is aOne Year Membership to TechShop Pittsburgh, in Bakery Square. The TechShopcommunity-based workshop and prototyping studio is on a mission to democratize access to the tools of innovation. Its seventh location, TechShop Pittsburgh, is excited to offer the Pittsburgh maker community more than 16,000 sq. ft. of workshops equipped with world-class tools and equipment, computers loaded with design software featuring the Autodesk Design Suite, hundreds of classes each month, and the support and camaraderie of a community of like-minded makers. An amazing facility! Come both days and get TWO chances to win the membership to the TechShop… a $1,395 value!

Be sure to check out all of the lovely items our exhibitors have, perfect gifts for everyone, and supplies for your new interests.

As a reminder, we will once again be a drop-off point for the Western Pennsylvania Division of the Salvation Army’s Annual Fabric Fair. The collections are not limited to fabric… you may also bring notions, yarns, threads and most craft-related items. There are special sections at the Fair for each category. I know many of us clean out during the summer months; I’ve seen lots of these items at sales this summer. This is a great way to support the Salvation Army and to feel good about donating your unused items.
Just as a reminder, many of the classes will not be available as a drop-in onsite. They require advance sign-up, due to the teacher needing to prepare in advance for the students. Please be sure to make your class selections by August 15.
Last but not least, congratulations to Pam Volz of Pittsburgh, who won our Poland prize pack from last month’s newsletter. Pam’s prize will be waiting for her at the registration table.

With Warm Regards,

Barb Grossman and Ann Szilagyi, Co-Founders
